A 50+ Year Investigation Finally Solved: The Zodiac Killer

After over 50 years of investigation on the infamous Zodiac Killer, The Case Breakers have finally figured out who the serial killer was. Gary Francis Poste, who died in 2018, has been identified as the Zodiac Killer, according to the Case Breakers. Years of searching by the team revealed significant forensic evidence and photographs from Poste’s darkroom. According to the researchers, one photograph shows scars on Poste’s forehead that match scars on a Zodiac drawing.

“Other clues include deciphering letters sent by the Zodiac that revealed him as the killer, said Jen Bucholtz, a former Army counterintelligence agent who works on cold cases. In one note, the letters of Poste’s full name were removed to reveal an alternate message, she told Fox News”(Casiano).

In short, all of the Zodiac Killer’s notes or anagrams were deciphered by different keys each time, making it so difficult to solve. Therefore, in order to decipher one of the notes, they needed to use his full name as the key. Unlike other serial killers, the Zodiac used intricate ciphers and messages to tease authorities. While Poste, aka the “Zodiac Killer” was connected to five murders, he had anonymously claimed that he had murdered 37 victims. After examining the evidence gathered thus far, a California lady who lived next door to Poste and his wife told Fox News she believes he is the Zodiac Killer. Poste and his wife babysat Gwen as a kid in the 1970s and 1980s, according to Gwen, who declined to reveal her last name. He would teach her how to shoot guns many times a week, but she claimed he was also domineering and violent to his wife.

Investigators noticed a trend that Poste manipulated men that lacked father figures. Hans Smits informed Fox News that he spent ten years sheltering a spy who claimed to have fled Poste’s illicit “posse.” Wil informed Smits that the group traveled California’s High Sierra region and that he was “trained into a killing machine”. Wil also said that he saw Poste hiding murder weapons in the woods. Despite the fact that he has been dead for three years, some people remain suspiciously faithful to him.
