On Friday, October 1, 2021, There has been 700,000 confirmed deaths from COVID-19. An outrageous number however, as this milestone was completely avoidable. The U.S had previously reached 600,000 deaths from the virus back in June. Even with the big introduction of vaccines, why has there been over 100,000 deaths over the several months? Are the vaccines not effective against the virus, was it all a lie? Unfortunately not, as vaccines were proven to be effective as monthly cases were slowing down. But why was it all avoidable you ask? Everybody in the U.S had the access to everything that could of avoided this, or even stop the pandemic completely with the vaccines.
With the Delta variant identified in early 2021, being more dangerous and contagious than COVID-19 virus, with identical or even worse symptoms. “Over the last few months, the overwhelming majority of people who died from Covid were unvaccinated. A study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published last month found that after the Delta variant became the most common variant in the US over the summer, unvaccinated Americans were 10 times more likely to be hospitalized and die because of the virus compared with vaccinated Americans.” But still, even with the more dangerous delta variant, 700,000 deaths were completely avoidable with vaccines.
The death rates are increasing steadily as only about half of the population are completely vaccinated. Many people even believe that masks and social distancing won’t end the pandemic, but vaccinations will. “Recent deaths have primarily been in southern states that have lagging vaccine rates, including Florida, Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana. Nationally, about 65% of people 12 and older who are eligible to receive the vaccine have been fully vaccinated, according to the CDC.”
Public health experts believe that the slowed rate of deaths are all from the effectiveness of the vaccines however, the amount of deaths in the U.S from the COVID virus is unacceptable. Experts believe that hospitalizations and deaths will decrease by a significant amount due to the Delta variant seemingly decreasing and as vaccine mandates are starting to come out.
