On May 21, 2021, on the way to his kindergarten, Aiden Leos, a young boy of age six, was shot in the stomach. Sitting on the right rear passenger seat in his seat booster, Aiden became the target of an open fire shooting on the northbound 55 Freeway between the 22 Freeway and Chapman Avenue in Orange County, California.
Currently, two weeks later, the Orange County Police have chased and closed in on two prime suspects: Marcus Anthony Eriz, 24, and Wynne Lee, 23. Both suspects were found in their house in Costa Mesa.
Though the Orange County Police have yet to release new information about the suspects, they have previously stated that a man and a woman, to be Eriz and Lee, were driving in a white Volkswagen car. Only the male was suspected as to firing the gun; however, both Eriz and Lee are to be charged with murder and they each have a bail of 1 million dollars. Surveillance footage also caught that the 2019 model car had illegal tinted windows. Between 7:55 AM and 8:15 AM, Marcus Anthony Ruiz, sitting in the front seat, then opened fire at random cars on the highway. Aiden was driven to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, where he was pronounced dead.
“I’m very, very confident that we have the right individuals in custody,” said Orange County’s District Attorney Todd Spitzer. “The public should be very, very proud of what the law enforcement community did and the public did to come together to bring justice for this little boy. Aiden Leos died — six years old. He had his whole life ahead of him. His parents should have been planning his kindergarten and his elementary school education. Not his funeral.”
Local groups and citizens have rounded up their support for Aiden’s family by donating over 500,000 dollars to a rewards fund.
The Leos family held Aiden’s funeral privately just this past weekend.
“This a a memorial, not a funeral,” Pastor Joshua Holiday said. “A funeral’s a ceremony, it’s held in connection with the burial or cremation, someone’s death and it signifies the end of their existence. A memorial service is a ceremony serving to preserve the remembrance of someone’s life. The focal point is different. We’re here to celebrate the life of Aiden.”
