Currently, Jeff Bezos is known as the former richest person in the world, and the CEO of Amazon. However, one week ago, Bezos announced through email that he would be stepping down from his iconic position and would pursue his other interests. In quarter 3, the current top cloud executive of Amazon, Andy Jassy will be taking his place. Bezos says he will still stay heavily involved with Amazon through the Bezos Earth Fund, Blue Origin, the Washington Post, and the Amazon Day 1 Fund.
Jeff Bezos founded Amazon back in 1994, transforming it over the years into the largest retailer worth $1.6 trillion. Blue Origin is an American Aerospace company that Bezos founded in 2000, and its mission is to make consumer aerospace viable. The Washington Post was an established news company, and Bezos acquired it for $250 million back in 2013. The Amazon/Bezos Day 1 Fund is a commitment by Bezos on making impacts for families and schools that awards corresponding organizations. These pursuits will likely keep Bezos in the loop of things and still involved.
Andy Jassy joined the Amazon team in 1997 and has been the lead of AWS(Amazon Web Services), which is now an essential service for launching and maintaining almost all applications, such as Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, and more. AWS is also responsible for being Amazon’s main source of profit, meaning Andy Jassy has played a very important role in the company for a number of years.
Jeff Bezos has expressed his hopes for the future in his email to his employees.
“Amazon couldn’t be better positioned for the future. We are firing on all cylinders, just as the world needs us to. We have things in the pipeline that will continue to astonish. We serve individuals and enterprises, and we’ve pioneered two complete industries and a whole new class of devices. We are leaders in areas as varied as machine learning and logistics, and if an Amazonian’s idea requires yet another new institutional skill, we’re flexible enough and patient enough to learn it. Keep inventing, and don’t despair when at first the idea looks crazy. Remember to wander, Let curiosity be your compass. It remains Day 1.”
– Jeff Bezos
As the world continues, people, including Amazon will change and adapt. It’s important to remember all that we’ve accomplished and look forward to the future.
