Plastic Pollution

Recycling is great, but not many plastics can be recycled, so using biodegradable alternatives for plastic is the best method to cut down plastic use to save the earth.

If humans do not revert the path of our plastic pollution, the World Economic Forum hypothesizes that plastic could outweigh all the animals in the sea by 2050. Recycling is not going to do much, because 91% of our plastic waste cannot be recycled. The greatest problem is what the plastics transform into: microplastics.

Microplastics are invisible to the human eye, and scatter all throughout the ocean. A group of female researchers, Exxpedition, figured this out by sailing and conducting experiments around the whole ocean. Adding on, all of the 91% un-recycled plastics will eventually backfire on the cause of the problem: humans. Exxpedition also found out that the microplastics affect humans directly through rain and seafood.

One can help by recycling, but mostly by cutting down plastic use in their daily life. If one ends up consuming a product in plastic, they should come up ways to make the plastic handy in a household. Using biodegradable alternatives for plastic could be one of the most effective methods by far.
