“Should Schools Change How They Grade Students During the Pandemic?”

In the New York Times article, “Should Schools Change How They Grade Students During the Pandemic?” the writer explains how the quarantine has impacted schools, and asks whether they should reconsider the grading system.

Question: What new grading policies should high schools and middle schools adopt during these weeks or months of remote learning? Why?

I think middle and high schools should adopt the pass/fail grading system because there needs to be a higher priority for health. Making students stress about online assignments and tests to pass the class can change their priority to do well. There are many families that I know of that are going through grief or worry because of a relative getting sick. These students are still expected to do all their work with full effort despite having to deal with personal issues. Changing the grading system to pass/fail can alleviate the stress going through most people and focus more on staying healthy and spending quality family time.
